Laser Tattoo Removal | Safe, Comfortable and Effective | The Aesthetic Studio Singapore

The Aesthetic Studio Clinic & Surgery provides safe, clinically proven technologies for effective Laser Tattoo Removal. Laser tattoo removal is now acknowledged as being the most common, least invasive, most comfortable and safest method of tattoo removal.

Decorative tattoos have a history dating back at least 5000 years. While some people keep their tattoos for life, many people regret their decision to decorate their body and may want to have them removed.

It is estimated that 50 percent of those who get tattoos later regret them.
There are many reasons for wanting a tattoo removed. A tattoo may be holding you back from getting the job you want or keeps you from attaining goals you have set for yourself. You may have a gang-related tattoo and are no longer associating yourself with gang activities. Perhaps you may be looking for a fresh start in life. You may have an old tattoo that symbolizes hate or prejudice, but you’ve decided that it is time to let it those negative feelings go. Or maybe you are wearing a tattoo reminder of a past love and now you have a new special person in your life - it would be unkind to your new love NOT to get rid of the old tattoo. Removing a tattoo can be a positive change, and can relieve you of the burden of living with a tattoo you seriously regret.

Older techniques and early attempts to remove tattoos have had less than desirable results, often leaving scars in place of the tattoo. With modern laser technology, removal of most tattoo inks is now possible with a very low risk of scarring.

What medical methods are available for removing tattoos?
Common techniques used are:

·      Laser Tattoo Removal: The tattoo is removed by selectively destroying the pigment colors with a high-intensity laser beam. Lasers have become the standard treatment because they offer a "bloodless," low risk, highly effective approach with minimal side effects. Depending on the tattoo inks used, multiple treatments may be required.

·      Dermabrasion: The surgeon "sands" the skin, removing the surface and middle layers of the tattoo. The combination of surgical and dressing techniques then helps to raise and absorb the tattoo inks.

·      Surgical Excision: The surgeon removes the tattoo with a scalpel and closes the wound with stitches or skin grafts. In selective cases, these techniques can be highly effective in removing some tattoos and allows the surgeon to excise inked areas with great control.

LASER TATTOO REMOVAL
With modern techniques and technology, Laser Tattoo Removal is now acknowledged as being the safest, most effective, least invasive, and most comfortable method of tattoo removal. Laser techniques avoid much of the scarring associated with other surgical methods. Laser tattoo removal can be used for:

• Traumatic tattoos
• Amateur tattoos
• Professional tattoos
• Medical tattoos
• Cosmetic tattoos

How does Laser Tattoo removal work?

Lasers work by producing short pulses of intense light that pass harmlessly through the top layers of the skin to be selectively absorbed by the tattoo pigment. This laser energy causes the tattoo pigment to fragment into smaller particles that are then removed by the body's immune system. Because this procedure selectively targets the pigment, the surrounding skin is left unharmed.

Researchers have determined which wavelengths of light to use and how to deliver the laser's output to best remove tattoo ink. (If you're wondering if the laser might also remove normal skin pigment, don't worry. The laser selectively targets the pigment of the tattoo without damaging the surrounding skin.)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Who performs the procedure?
All our laser procedures are personally performed by our doctor.

Is laser tattoo removal treatment painful?
For most people there is a minimal amount of discomfort involved in this procedure. Most clients describe the feeling as a ‘rubber band snap’ or ‘specks of hot grease on the skin’. We use a combination of numbing cream and cooling to make the treatment as comfortable as possible.

How many sessions of Laser treatment is required to remove the tattoo?
The number of treatments depends on several different factors such as the amount and type of ink used and the depth of the ink in the skin. On average, professional tattoos require 5 to 6 treatments, while amateur tattoos require 3 to 4 treatments.

How often should I come in for treatments?
Laser tattoo treatments are best repeated at 6 to 8 week intervals. This allows your body to heal and the immune system enough time to remove the pigment.

How long does it take to heal?
The laser treated tattoo takes 7 to 10 days to heal much like a tattoo. The inked area will be slightly raised and the area around the tattoo will look reddish and feel warm, much like sunburn.

Will I have a scar?
Scarring is rare after laser tattoo removal; however, scarring is a possibility in any medical procedure involving the skin. If you are predisposed to keloids, or you scar easily, highlight this to our doctor at your first consultation so that further precautions can be taken. Compliance with our aftercare instructions will greatly reduce your chances of scarring.

Do all colours of ink disappear equally well?
Dark (Blue and Black) inks and Red inks fade the best. Orange and purples usually respond well. Green and yellow inks are the most difficult to remove although additional treatments can produce significant fading.

Can eyebrow and eyeliner tattoos be removed?
Yes, definitely. We receive many requests for removal of eyebrow and eyeliner tattoos. These brown or black tattoos respond very well to Q-switched 1064 Nd:Yag laser treatments. For eyeliner tattoos, the eyes will be protected with special metal corneal shields during treatment.

Can I lighten my tattoo in order to cover it with another tattoo?
Yes. Tattoo artists refer many clients who request lightening their tattoos before cover up work is performed. This often allows for greater choice in new tattoo design and improves the final result.

What precautions (Post-procedure care) are required following laser treatment?
·     Avoid direct exposure to the sun. Use a sunblock (At least SPF 25).
·     Do not rub, scratch or pick at the treated area.
·     A thin coat of antibiotic ointment should be applied four times a day to keep the wound moist while healing.
·     A protective dressing should be applied if chaffing against clothing or jewellery irritates the area.
·     Do not apply make-up until the crust disappears. (Usually 2 to 4 days)
·     Avoid swimming and contact sport while any crusts are present.
·     If the treated area shows signs of infection (tenderness, redness, swelling or pus), notify our clinic immediately.

Permanent Hair Removal | The Aesthetic Studio Clinic Singapore

DARE TO BE BARE?
The Aesthetic Studio Clinic Singapore introduces a safe and effective solution for permanent hair reduction using Broad Band Light – BBL Hair Removal.

Permanent Hair Removal

Unwanted and unsightly hair is a common problem that plagues both men and women, and may be preventing you wearing your favorite swimsuit, sundress, shorts or tank tops. Men may feel self-consciousness when taking off your shirt at the beach. Imagine never having to deal with or worry about any of your unwanted body or facial hair again.

Intense pulsed light (IPL) systems are now acknowledged as the most convenient, comfortable and effective method of permanent hair reduction.

BBL HAIR REMOVAL
Sciton BBL ® hair removal uses a broadband light (IPL) to gently remove unwanted hair, putting an end to routine shaving and waxing. This advanced technology transcends the older, painful hair removal treatments to deliver long-lasting results. The Sciton BBL ® treats more than one hair at a time, making it possible to treat both small areas on the face as well as lager areas such as back, chest, shoulders, arms, and legs.

A detailed pre-treatment consultation with our doctor will determine the most suitable hair removal method to suit each individual and treatments are customized for optimal results.

The Procedure
In the interest of safety, our doctors perform all our treatments personally.

Tanning must be avoided for 4 weeks prior to treating fine hair with BBL. Also refrain from using tanning lotions for 2 weeks prior to the procedure for best results.

The hair will be clipped or shaved prior to beginning treatment. This allows the optimum amount of light to pass through the skin and be absorbed by the hair bulb in the follicle. Hair needs to be present in the follicle for laser or BBL treatments to be most effective. Since waxing or plucking pulls hair out of the follicle, recently waxed or plucked areas will not be suitable for treatment.

Most patients describe the procedure as virtually painless; discomfort if any, should feel no worse than the snap of a rubber band. For sensitive areas our patients are offered topical anesthetic cream, applied generously 30 min prior to the scheduled treatment.

It is important to highlight to us beforehand if you are taking any medications that could make you light sensitive such as certain antibiotics or herbal medicines. Recent sun exposure must always be discussed prior to each treatment.

The unwanted hair begins to fall out over one to two weeks. Keep the treated area clean, use a least SPF 35 sunscreen when outdoors, and do not suntan while undergoing treatments. You may shave the treated area after 3 days following a BBL hair removal treatment. Do not pluck or wax or use a chemical exfoliant between treatments. Do NOT shave or trim the treated area for the first 3 days.

If the treated area is irritated the area should not be rubbed with a face cloth or towel. Avoid scrubbing. The area should be patted dry. You can return to normal activities immediately after your treatments.

THE RESULTS
You may need to be treated from 6-8 times at intervals of 4-6 weeks.

There are three phases of hair growth - anagen, catagen and telogen. BBL eliminates the hair that is currently in an active growth cycle (anagen) so multiple treatments are necessary over a time span (4-6 week intervals) to remove hair from most areas. Duration of hair growth cycles vary with the location on the body and some larger areas of the body may need a few extra treatments.

The average person will see an approximately 50% reduction in hair growth after three light-based hair removal sessions and up to an 80% lasting reduction after six to eight treatments (results vary). After you have completed a series of four to six treatments, any remaining hair will usually be much finer and lighter in color.

Coarse black hair requires from 3-8 laser treatments (6-8 is average) to each treatment area for long lasting, optimal results. Finer, light-colored hair needs more treatments as less of the light energy is absorbed in each session by the hair follicle.

SIDE EFFECTS
You may experience mild reddening of the skin that will usually subside within a few hours. Cold compresses may be applied if the skin feels warm to touch but avoid applying ice to the area. Swelling, blistering or temporary changes in the color of your skin may occur in rare instances. Contact our clinic immediately should this happen.

COSTS
The cost is determined according to the size of the area to be treated. Compared to other hair removal methods, BBL hair removal can actually be far more economical both financially and time-wise.

Allergan Asia Pacific Medical Aesthetic Congress 2011 | The Aesthetic Studio Singapore

Dr. Jonathan Lee was recently invited to participate in the Allergan Asia Pacific Medical Aesthetic Congress, which was held on the 19th and 20th of March 2011 in Cebu, Philippines.

Entitled Combining aesthetic science and artistry, the invitation-only 2-day event had 200 delegates in attendance from over 12 Asia Pacific countries, and an esteemed international faculty of dermatologists and plastic surgeons from Asia Pacific, Europe and the United states.

Allergan Asia Pacific Medical Aesthetics Congress 2011

Invited speakers included Drs. Greg Goodman (Sydney, Australia), Mauricio de Maio (Sao Paulo, Brazil), Hervé Raspaldo (Cannes, France), Michael Kane (New York, USA), Peter Callan (Melbourne Australia), Vic Narurkar (San Francisco, USA), Steven Liew (Sydney, Australia), Gregor Wahl (Berlin, Germany) and Hisham Abdalla (Auckland, NZ).

The packed 2-day program combined lectures and workshops with live injection demonstrations, small group sessions and expert panel case discussions; and provided ample opportunities for scientific exchange, sharing of clinical experience and networking between delegates and faculty.

Topics included all aspects of facial rejuvenation and aesthetic enhancement utilizing injectable treatments Botox and the Juvederm range of dermal fillers, such as treatment the peri-orbital region, the peri-oral region, forehead temple and brow aesthetics, midface volume correction, décolletage neck and hand rejuvenation and strategies for nose shaping and enhancement.

The meeting was certainly a unique opportunity for leading aesthetic practitioners from the Asia Pacific region to share their best practices, discuss latest medical aesthetic treatments, and share their tips and tricks for achieving the best cosmetic outcomes in our patients. There was a lively exchange of ideas and philosophies between delegates and faculty, highlighting both similarities and differences in the treatment, needs and demands of patients of different ethnicity (Caucasian, South and East Asian) and cultural background.

One particular emphasis in the meeting was improving physician skills in facial assessment, bringing together anatomical concepts of facial aging, facial analysis, concepts of beauty, and practical therapeutic solutions. These discussions were followed by actual patient examples and live procedures, with the faculty members demonstrating a variety of advanced injection techniques.

Botox and Dermal Fillers have most certainly changed the landscape of cosmetic practice in recent years, providing powerful, proven and effective treatments to address so many of our patient’s cosmetic concerns – while offering the safety, simplicity, comfort and convenience of a ‘lunchtime’ procedure. New techniques and applications are continually being developed and described.

Many thanks to Allergan for so ably organizing a complex yet outstanding meeting and for their commitment to physician education and improving safety and outcomes for our patients.
